Dizzy Gillespie has historically been one of the most eclectic of musicians. The Be-Bop era that he pioneered with Charlie Parker is of course known to every jazz fan. His early investigations, with Chano Pozo, in Afro-Cuban rhythms have now become standard in the lexicon of jazz. And his intensity, emotion, technique, and above all the ideas with which he approaches music, are respected and admired by his peers.
